A body of mass `10 kg` is taken from equator to pole of the Earth. Calculate the change in its weight, if the radius of the Earth is `6.38 xx 10^(6) m`, time period of Earth's rotation about its polar axis is `24` hours.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

At equator, `g_(e) = g - R omega^(2)` , At pole `g_(p) = g`.
Change in wt. `= mg_(p) - mg_(e) = m[g -(g - R omega^(2))]`
`= m R omega^(2) = mR (4pi^(2))/(T^(2))`
