A liquid of density `rho` and surface tension S rises to a height h in a capillary tube of diameter D. what is the weight of the liquid in the capillary tube? Angle of contact is `0^(@)`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Weight of liquid in the capillary tube is
`W=mg = pi r^(2)h rho g`
We know that, `h=(2 S cos theta)/(r rho g) = (2S)/(r rho g)`
`:. W = pi r^(2) rho g xx (2S)/(r rho g) = pi xx 2r xx S`
`= pi D S`.
