The diameters of steel rods A and B having the same length are 3 cm and 6 cm respectively. They are heated through `80^(@)C`. What is the ratio of increase in length of A to that B?

Text Solution

Increases in length , `Delta l = l_(0) alpha Delta t`, which is independent of diameter of steel rod. As original length `(l_0)`, rise in temp. `(Delta T)` and `alpha` are same for two steel rods, hence `Delta l_(A): Delta l_(B) = 1:1`.
