What kind of thermal condcutivity , specifie heat and coefficient of expansion requirements would you specify for cooking utensils?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The requirements for the cooking utensils are as follows: (i) they should have high conductivity so that they conduct heat through itself to the cooking material quickly.
(ii) They should have low specific heat so that they may attain the temperature of the source quickly.
(iii) They should have low coefficient of expansion so that utensils may not change their shapes during cooking.

What is required to specify the position of an object?

The ends Q and R of two thin wires, PQ and RS, are soldered (joined) together. Initially each of the of wire has a length of 1m at 10^@C. Now the end P is maintained at 10^@C, while the ends S is heated and maintained at 400^@C. The system is thermally insultated from its surroundings. If the thermal conductivity of wire PQ is twice that of the wire RS and the coefficient of linear thermal expansion of PQ is 1.2xx10^-5K^-1, the change in length of the wire PQ is

A metallic rod l cm long, A square cm in cross-section is heated through t^(@)"C" . If Young’s modulus of elasticity of the metal is E and the mean coefficient of linear expansion is alpha per degree celsius, then the compressional force required to prevent the rod from expanding along its length is

A beaker of height H is made up of a material whose coefficient of linear thermal expansion is 3alpha . It is filled up to the brim by a liquid whose coefficient of volume expansion is 3alpha . If now the beaker along with its contents is uniformly heated through a small temperature T, the level of liquid will reduced by ("Given, " alphaT ltlt 1)

Calculate the compressional force required to prevent the metallic rod length l cm and cross-sectional area A cm^(2) when heated through t^(@)C , from expanding along length wise. The Young's modulus of elasticity of the metal is E and mean coefficient of linear expansion is alpha per degree Celsiuss
