Why are clear nights colder than cloudy nights ?

Clouds reflect the heat radiations falling on them. So on a cloudy night, the radiations from earths surface reaching the clouds are relfected back so the temperature of earth does not fall. But on a clear night, the radiations from the earth surface escape out so, earths temperature falls. that is why a clear night is colder than a cloudy night.
