A liquid flows through a pipe 1.0 mm radius and 20 cm length under a pressure of `10^4 dyn e//cm^2` Calculate (i) the rate of flow and (ii) the speed of the liquid coming out of the tube. The coefficient of viscosity of liquid is `1.23 xx 0^(2) dyn e cm^(-2)s.`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
`1.6 cm^3 s^(-1);` (ii) 50.8 cm/s

`V=(piPr^(4))/(8etal) =((22//7)xx10^(4)xx(0.1)^(4))/(8xx(1.23xx10^(-2))xx20) =1.6 cm ^(3) s^(-1)`
Speed of the flow of the liquid,
`u=(V)/(pi r^(2))=(1.6)/((22//7)xx(0.1)^(2))=50.8 cm//s`
