An insulated container containing monoatomic gas of molar mass s is moving with a velocity `v_0`. If the container is suddenly stopped, find the change in temperature.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When the container is suddenly stopped , loss in KE of gas = `1/2 (mn) upsilon_(0)^(2)` where n is number of moles of gas.
If `Delta T` is fall in temperature of gas, then `n(3/2 R Delta T) = 1/2 mn upsilon_(0)^(2)`
`Delta T = (m upsilon_(0)^(2))/(3R)`
