The displacement of an eleastic wave is ...

The displacement of an eleastic wave is given by the function `y=3 sin omega t +4 cos omegat .`
where y is in cm and t is in second. Calculate the resultant amplitude.

Text Solution

The given equation is `y=3sinomega t +4cos omegat`
`:. a_(1)=3 and a_(2)=4`
As the two amplitudes are at `90^(@)` to each other, therefore, resultant amplitude,
`a=sqrt(a_(1)^(2)+a_(2)^(2))=sqrt(3^(2)+4^(2))=5cm`
