This is because the distance of the sun from the earth is very large `(~~ 10^11 m)`.
`:.` Angle subtended by the sun at our eye `~~ 10^9//10^11 = 10^-2` radian. The same angle is subtended by a disc of diameter `1 cm` at a distance of `100 cm`. From the eye. Hence the sun looks like a small disc.
