When does Snell's Law of refraction fail ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Snell's Law of refraction fails when light is incident normally on the surface of a refracting medium. In that case, `i= 0, r = 0`. The ratio `sin i//sin r` is meaningless.

What is Snell's law of refraction? What does it imply?

Define Snell's law of refraction. A ray of light is incident on a glass slab at angle of incidence of 60^(@) . If the angle of refraction be 32.7^(@) , calculate the refractive index of glass. (Given: sin 60^(@)=0.866 and sin32.7^(@)=0.540) .
