In the nth orbit of hydrogen atom, find ...

In the nth orbit of hydrogen atom, find the ratio of the radius of the electron orbit and de-Broglie wavelength associated with it.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In nth orbit of hydrogen atom, the velocity `v_n` of electron is given by
`mv_nr_n=(nh)/(2pi)`
or `v_n=(nh)/(2pimr_n)`
de-Broglie wavelength,
`lambda=h/(mv_n)=h/mxx(2pimr_n)/(nh)=(2pir_n)/n`
`:. (r_n)/lambda=n/(2pi)`

State the expression for the radius of the nth Bohr orbit in a hydrogen atom. Hence state the expression for the de Broglie wavelength associated with the electron in this orbit.

Show that the circumference of the Bohr orbit for the hydrogen atom is an integral multiple of the de Broglie wavelength associated with the electron revolving around the orbit.

Assertion Second orbit circumference of hydrogen atom is two times the de-Broglie wavelength of electrons in that orbit Reason de-Broglie wavelength of electron in ground state is minimum.

According to Bohr's theory of hydrogen atom , the product of the binding energy of the electron in the nth orbit and its radius in the nth orbit
