Two satellites are in the parking orbits around the earth. Mass of one is 5 times that of the other. The ratio of their periods of revolution is

A

25

B

`sqrt(5)`

C

1

D

`root(3)(5)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

For a satellite, the period `T = 2pi sqrt(((R+h)^(3))/(GM))`
where h is the height of the satellite from the surface of the earth. Thus T depends upon the mass, radius of the earth and h. It is independent of the mass of the satellite. As both are at the same height,
`T_(1)=T_(2)` or `(T_(1))/(T_(2))=1`
