Why should not medicines be taken without consulting doctors?

Side effects are caused when a drug binds to more than one receptor site. Furthermore, dose of the drug is also crucial because some drugs in higher doses may act as a poison. Therefore, we should consult a doctor who can diagnose the disease properly and prescribe the correct medicine in appropriate dose
