What is the basic difference between antiseptics and disinfectants?

Antiseptics prevent the growth of microorganisms and may even kill them. They are safely applied on living tissues. Disinfectants also kill microorganisms but are not safe to be applied on living tissues. They are applied to non-living objects such as drains, toilets, floors, etc.
