Explain the role of allosteric site in enzyme inhibition?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Some drugs do not bind to the enzyme's active site but instead bind to a different site of enzyme, called an allosteric site. Binding of a drug molecule at the allosteric site changes the shape of the active site of the enzyme in such a way that substrate cannot recognise it. Thus the chemical reaction is inhibited.
