(a) At what temperature would the resistance of a copper conductor be double of its value of `0^(@)C`? (b) Does this same temperature hold for all copper conductors, regardless of shape and size? `[alpha_(c) = 4.0xx10^(-3).^(@)C^(-1)]`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
`250^(@)C`

(a) `R_(t) = 2R_(0) = R_(o) (1+ alpha t)`
or `2= 1 + alpha t = (1)/(alpha) = (1)/(4xx 10^(-3)) = 250^(@)C`
(b) As `t = (1)/(alpha)`, which is independent of dimensions of conductor, so the temperature `t (= 250^(@)C)` is valid for all copper conductor whatsoever may be their shape and size
