What is the increasing order of basic strength of the following compounds in aqueous solution?

A

`III lt I lt II lt IV`

B

`I lt II lt IV lt III`

C

`I lt II lt III lt IV`

D

`III lt I lt IV lt II`

The correct Answer is:
A

In aqeous solution, amine basically follows the order `NH_(3)lt` tertiary`lt` primary `lt` secondary.
This is due to the combined effect of induction and stabilisation of conjugate acid through `H`-bonding. Also, a cyclic amine is more basic `(IV)` than acyclic amine. `(II)`. if their degrees are same. hence, the overall order is `K_(b) : III(3^(@)) lt I(1^(@)) lt II(2^(@),"acyclic") lt IV(2^(@), "cyclic")`.
