Draw the voltage-current charateristics of a p-n junction and compare it with the characteristics of a resistor.

In Fig.1.48 two charateristics are shown. Comparing them we can say:
(i) Ordinary resistor obeys Ohm's law and hence its characteristic curve is linear but p-n junction does not obey Ohm's law.
Current can flow in any direction through an ordinary resistor but in the reverse bias of a p-n junction the magnitude of current is negligible.
