In Young's double slit experiment, using monochromatic light, the fringe patternn shifts by a certain distance on the screen, when a transparent sheet of thickness 't' and refractive index `mu` is introduced in the path of one of the interfering waves. the sheet is then removed and the distance between the screen and the slits is doubled. it is found that the distance between the successive maxima (or minima) now is the samme as the observed fringe shift when the sheet was introduced. what is the wavelength of light used?

A

`lamda=(mu-1)t`

B

`lamda=((mu-1)t)/(2)`

C

`lamda=(mu+1)t`

D

`lamda=((mu+1)t)/(2)`

The correct Answer is:
B

The fringe system is shifted through a distance a, given by
`s=(mu-1)t*(X)/(lamda)=(mu-1)t*(lamdaD)/(d)xx(1)/(lamda)`
`=(mu-1)t*(D)/(d)` . . . (1)
Where the fringe width `X=(lamdaD)/(d)`
when the plate is removed and D is doubled, the new fringe width becomes
`X'=(2lamdaD)/(d)` . . . (2)
It is given that `s=X'`
`therefore (mu-1)t(D)/(d)=(2lamdaD)/(d)" "therefore lamda=((mu-1)t)/(2)`

In YDSE using monochromatic light, the fringe pattern shifts by a certain distance on the screen when a mica sheet of refractive index 1.5 and thickness 2 microns is introduced in the path of one of the interfering waves. The mica sheet is then removed and the distance between the plane of slits and the screen is doubled. It is found that the distance between successive maxima (or minima) now is the same as the observed fringe shift upon the introduction of the mica sheet. Calculate the wavelength of the light.

In YDSE using monochromatic light the fringe pattern shifts by a certain distance on the screen when a mica sheet of refractive index 1.6 and thickness 1.964 microns is introduced in the path of one of the interfering waves. The mica sheet is then removed and the distance between the plane of slits and the screen is doubled. It is found that the distance between successive maxima (or minima) now is the same as the observed fringe shift upon the introduction of the mica sheet. Calculate the wavelength of the light.

In young,s double slit experience monochromatic light, the frings pattern shifts by a certain distance on the screen when a mica sheet of refractive index 1.6 and thickness 1.964 microns is introduced in the path of one of the interfering waves. The mica sheet is then sheet is then removed and the distance between the slits and the screen is doubled. It is found that now the distance between succesive maximum (or minimum) is the same as the observed fringe-shift upon the introduction o fthe mica sheet. Calculate the wavelength of the monochromatic light used in the experiment.

When the distance between the slit and screen in Young's experiment is doubled then

In the Young's double slit experiment , a mica slip of thickness t and refractive index mu is introduced in the ray from first source S_(1) . By how much distance fringes pattern will be displaced ? (d = distance between the slits and D is the distance between slits andscreen)
