In an interference pattern produced by using a biprism, the zeroth order maxima is at a distance of 4.7mm from a point P on the screen. If the fringe width is 0.2 mm, then the distance of the second minima from the point P will be

A

only 4.4 mm

B

only 5 mm

C

either 4.4 mm or 5 mm depending upon the position of P

D

6 mm

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
C

Distance of the second minima from n=0 is
`(3X)/(2)=(3)/(2)=0.2=0.3mm`

If P is on the same side, then the distance of second minima form P will be 4.7-0.3=4.4 mm.
