A capacitor `C_(1)=4muF` is connected in series with another capaciitor `C_(2)=1muF`. The combination is connected across a.d.c. source of 200 V. the ratio of potential across `C_(2)` to `C_(2)` is

A

`2:1`

B

`4:1`

C

`8:1`

D

`16:1`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

Since the capacitors are connected in series, the charge Q is the same for both and `therefore V=(Q)/(C)`
`therefore Q=V_(1)C_(1)=V_(2)C_(2)`
`therefore (V_(2))/(V_(1))=(C_(1))/(C_(2))=(4)/(1)`.
