Mass of solute : Calculate the mass of ...

Mass of solute : Calculate the mass of `CaSO_(4)` present in `200 mL` of a `6.00%` soultuion of `CaSO_(4)`. The density of the solution is `1.06g mL^(-1)` at `25^(@) C`
Strategy: Find the mass of solution by multiplying the volume of solution wtih its density and then find the mass of `CaSO_(4)` as discussed in the previous example.

Step 1: Density `= ("Mass")/("Volume")`
`:.` Mass of solution
= (Density fo solution) `xx` (Volume of sulution)
`= (1.06g mL^(-1))(200 mL)`
`= 212g`
Step 2: Percent solute `= ("Mass of solute")/("Mass of solution") xx 100%`
`:.` Mass of solute `= (("Percent solute") xx ("Mass of soltuiton"))/(100%)`
`= ((6.00%) (212g))/((100%)) = 12.7g CaSO_(4)`
Altermatively, in one setup,
`?g CaSO_(4) = 200 "mL soln." xx (1.06 "g soln.")/(1.00 mL "soln.") xx (6.00g CaSO_(4))/(100g "soln.")`
`= 12.7g CaSO_(4)`
