Energy of radiation: Consider ultraviloe...

Energy of radiation: Consider ultraviloet radiation of frequency `2.73xx10^(16)s^(-1)`and yellow light of frequency `5.26xx10^(14)s^(-1)`. Calculate the enegry, in joules, of an individual quantum of each. Compare these photos by claculating the ration of their energies.
Strategy: Use each frequency to calculate the quantum enegry from the relationship, `E =hV`. then calculate the required ratio.

Ultraviloet radiation:
`E - hv = (6.626 xx 10^(-34)Js)(2.73 xx 10^(16)s^(-1))`
`= 1.81 xx 10^(-17)J`
Yellow light:
`E = hv = (6.626 xx 10^(-34)Js)(5.26xx10^(14)s^(-1))`
`=3.49 xx 10^(-19)J`
Now, we compare the energuies of these quanta.
`(E_(UV))/(E_(Yellow)) = (1.81xx10^(-17)J)/(3.49xx10^(-19)J) = 51.9`
A quantum of radiation near the middle of the ultraviolet region is more than `51` times more energetic than a quantum of light near the middle of the visible region.
