The maximum kinetic energy of the photoe...

The maximum kinetic energy of the photoelectrons is related to the stopping potential `(v_(0))` thorugh the relation

A

`KE_(max) = eV_(0)`

B

`KE_(max) = e//V_(0)`

C

`KE_(max) = eV_(0)^(2)`

D

`KE_(max) = e sqrt(V_(0))`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Stopping potential is the negative potential applied to the anode of the photoelectric cell. As a result, the photoelectrons are repelled. They utilize a part of their `KE` to overcome the repulsion. If we go on increasing the negtive voltage of the anode, a stage will come when the entire `KE` of the photoelectrons is used up and electron become stationary.
