Which of the following is the limatation of de Broglie's analysis?

A

Waves associated with macroscopic particles cannot be detected.

B

Diffraction of electrons by a crystal.

C

States having zero orbital angular momenutm do exist.

D

Waves can behave like particles and particles can exhibit wave properties.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

de Broglie's analysis fails to explain the fact that orbital angular momentum of `e^(-)` in certain states is zero.
`(2)` Diffraction is an important characteristic of waves. If shown conclusively that electrons do habe wave properties. Though waves associated with electrons have a very short wavelength, it is similar to the spacing between atoms in many crystals. Thus, a stream of electrons hitting such a crystal gives measurable diffraction patterns
