Which of the following will give a pair of enontiomorphs ?
`en = NH_(2)CH_(2)CH_(2)NH_(2)`

A

`[Co(en)_(2)CI_(2)]CI`

B

`[Pt(NH_(3))_(4)][PtCI_(6)]`

C

`[Co(NH_(3))_(4)CI_(2)]NO_(2)`

D

`[Cr(NH_(3))_(6)][Co(CN)_(6)]`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Optical isomerism is never shown by square planar complexes such as `[Pt(NH_(3))_(4)]^(2+)` but may be exhibited by octachedral complexes provided all the unidentate ligands are different or at least one bidentate ligand is present. Complex `[Co(en)_(2)C1_(2)]C1` ehibits geometrical isomerism. Trans - form is optically active and hence leads to a pair of enantiomorphs.
