Which of the following structures has the `D`-configuration

A

B

C

D

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

Any compound that can be prepared from or converted into `D(+)-`glyceraldehyde will belong ti the `D`-series. Similarly any compound that can be prepared from or converted into `L(-)-`glyceraldehyde will belong to the `L-`series. For this kind of designation the spatial arrangement of the four ligands joined to the chiral carbon atom must be placed in such a ways that the carbon `-1`is at the top while carbon `-3` is at the bottom of the Fischer projection.

Like `D(+)-`glyceraldehyde it has the hydrogen atom at the left teh hydroxy`1` group at the right.
