A mass of `2kg` oscillates on a spring with force constant `50 N//m`. By what factor does the frequency of oscillation decrease when `a` damping force with constant `b = 12` is introduced ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`omega_(o) = sqrt((50)/(2)) = 5Hz, omega = sqrt(omega_(o)^(2)-((b)/(2m))^(2)) = sqrt(5^(2)-3^(2)) =4Hz` so `'omega'` reduces by `1Hz` or `20%`
