In the given circuit, with steady current, the potential drop across the capacitor must be

A

`V`

B

`(V)/(2)`

C

`(V)/(3)`

D

`(2V)/(3)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

In steady state condition, no current will flow through the capacitor C. Current in the outer circuit
`i=(2V-V)/(2R-R)=(V)/(3R)`
Potential difference between A and B
`V_(A)-V+V+iR=V_(B)`
`thereforeV_(B)-V_(A)=iR=((V)/(3R))R=(V)/(3)`
Note, in this problem charge stored in the capacitor can also be asked, which is equal to `q=C(V)/(3)` with positive charge on B side and negative on A side Because `V_(B)gtV_(A)`
