Consider 10 litres of 1.0 M aqueous solution of barium hydroxide. Calculate the number of milliequivalents of barium hydroxide.
Strategy: Find the n factor (Z) to convert molarity into normality. Number of milliequivatents is normality times volume of solution in millilitres

`Ba(OH)_(2) overset(H_(2)O)(rarr) Ba^(2+)(aq.)+2OH^(-)(aq.)`
Because each mol of `Ba(OH)_(2)` produces 2 moles of `OH^(-)` ions, 1 mole of `Ba(OH)_(2)` is 2 equivalents. Thus
`N=Mxx(2 eq.)/(mol)`
`=((1.0 mol)/L)xx((2 eq.)/(mol))`
`=2.0 eq. L^(-1)`
Number of milli equivalents=Normality x millitres of solution
`=(2.0)(10,000)`
`=20,000`
