When initial concentration of a reactant...

When initial concentration of a reactant is doubled in a reaction, its half-life period is not affected. The order of the reaction is

A

more than zero but less than first

B

zero

C

first

D

second

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

In general, half-life of a reaction is related to the initial concentration of the reactant as follows:
`t_(1//2)prop(1)/(a^(n-1))`
where `n` is the total order of reaction. It can be seen that only for a first order reaction `(n=1)` , half-life period is constant, i.e., it is independent of initial concentration of the reacting species.
