The rate of the reaction 2NO+CI(2)rarr...

The rate of the reaction
`2NO+CI_(2)rarr 2NOCI`
is given by the rate equation
`Rate = k[NO]^(2)[CI_(2)]`
The value of the rate constant can be increased by

A

increasing the rate temperature

B

increasing the constration of NO

C

increasing the concentration of the `CI_(2)`

D

doing all of these

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

The value of rate constant does not depend on the initial concentration of reactants because it is defined as the reaction rate when the concentration of every reactant is unity, i.e., its value is always calculated at fixed concentration. Its value depends only upon temperature and presence/absence of a catalyst according to Arrhenius equation, `K=Ae^(-E_(a)//RT)` . Note that, a catalyst changes the value of `E_(a)` .
