Despite its ready availabilty in the atmosphere ,nitrogen is much less abundant `(1.9xx10^(-3)%)` in the crustal rocks and soils of earth. In the earth's crust ,it occurs as sodium nitrate `NaNO_(3)` (called Chile saltpeter) and potassium nitrate, `KNO_(3)` (called indian saltpreter).
