`N_(2)O`has a sweet taste. The largest use of `N_(2)O` is as a propellant for whipped ice-cream . It is sometimes used as an anesthetic, although the high concentrations needed to cause unconsciousness make it unsuitable for more than brife operations such as tooth extraction. A anesthetists have been known to become addicted to the narcotic gas.
