A dipole is placed in `x-y` plane parallel to the line `y=2x` there exist a unifrom electric field among `z-axis` .Net force acting on the dipole will be zero. But it can experience some torque,we can show that the direction of this torque will be parallel to the line

A

`y=2x+1`

B

`y=-2x`

C

`y=-(1)/(2)x`

D

`y=-(1)/(2)x+2`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C,D

Torque will be perpendicular to the line `y=2x` and it should be in `xy` plane ,because electric field in z-direction .the line in option (C ) and (d) both are perpendicular to `y=2x`
