The oxidation of certain metal is found ...

The oxidation of certain metal is found to obey the equation `A^(2) =alphat+beta`, where `A` is the thickness of the oxide film at time `t, alpha` and `beta` are constants. What is the order of this reaction?

A

0

B

C

-1

D

The correct Answer is:
C

`A^2=alpha t + beta`
Differewntiating this equastion . We get
`2AdA=alpha.dt" or "(dA)/(dt)=alpha/(2A)=alpha/2=[A]^(-1)`
Hence, order or reaction = - 1. ltbvgt `(d[A])/(dt)` represents the rate of increase of thickness of oxide filim with time.
