At 1073 or above , the standard free energy of formation ` ( Delta _ f G ^(@) ) ` of CO from C is much below the standard free energy of formation ` (Delta _ f G ^(@)) ` of FeO. Therefore, above 1073 K, carbon can reduce FeO to Fe.
