In aqueous NaOH, `C_(6)H_(5)CH_(2)Cl` readily undergoes ionization to form stable benzyl cation `(C_(6)H_(5)CH_(2)^(+))`
and hence it undergoes hydrolysis by `S_(N)1` mechanism and form benzyl alcohol as product.
