`1^(@) and 2^(@)` alcohols react with HCl only in presence of anhyd. `ZnCl_(2)` as catalyst while in case of `3^(@)` alcohols, `ZnCl_(2)` is not required. Thus, reaction (II) cannot be used to prepares alkyl halides. While all other reactions can be used. in other words, option (d) is correct.
