What is rubbing alcohol? Why is it preferred to ethanol?

Rubbing alcohol contains about 70% 2-propanol it is preferred to ethanol since it has less drying effect on the skin. It is used as a cooling and soothing agent for bed ridden patients and athletes. It is also widely used for cleasing surgeons' hands andd instruments and also ans an antiseptic for skin before giving injections.
