Lactose is a dissacharide. On hydrolysis , it gives two molecules of monosaccharides ,i.e., one molecule of each of `D-(+)` -glucose and `D-(+)` -galactose.
`underset("Lactose")(C_(12)H_(22)O_(11)) +H_(2)Ooverset(H_3O^+)underset("or Lactase")to underset(D-(+)-"Glucose")(C_6H_12O_6)+underset(D-(+)-"Galactose")(C_6H_12O_6)`.
