Is the sequence defined by a(n) = 3n^(2...

Is the sequence defined by ` a_(n) = 3n^(2) + 2 an ` A.P. ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Given , ` a_(n) = 3n^(2) + 2 `
` a_(n-1) = 3(n-1)^(2) + 2 = 3(n^(2) -2n + 1) + 2 = 3n^(2) - 6n + 5`
` therefore a_(n) - a_(n-1) = 6n - 3 `
which is dependent on n .
Hence , the given sequence is not an A.P.
