Prove that `(sin20^(@) + sin40^(@)) + (cos20^(@) + cos40^(@))=(sqrt(3)+1)cos10^(@)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

LHS `=(sin 20^(@) + sin40^(@)) + (cos 20^(@)+ cos 40^(@))`
We know that, `sin C + sinD=2sin(C+D)/2 cos(C-D)/2`
and, `cosC + cosD = 2cos(C+D)/2 .cos(C-D)/2`.
Now, LHS `=2sin60^(@)/2. cos20^(@)/2+ 2cos60^(@)/2 . Cos20^(@)/2`.
`=cos10^(@) + sqrt(3)cos10^(@)`
`=(sqrt(3)+1) cos10^(@)`= R.H.S.
