Prove the following identity: cot A+cot(...

Prove the following identity: `cot A+cot(60^0+A)+cot(120^0+A)=3cot3A`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`={cota}+cot (60+a)-cot (60-a)=3 cot 3 a`

`={cota}+frac{cos (60+a)}{sin (60+a)}-frac{cos (60-a)}{sin (60-a)}`

`={cota}+frac{cos A-sqrt{3} sin A}{sqrt{3} cos A+sin A}-frac{cos A+sqrt{3} sin A}{sqrt{3} cos A-sin A}`

`=>cot A+frac{-8 sin A cos A}{3 cos ^{2} A-sin ^{2} A}`

`=>cot A-frac{8 cot ^{2} A}{3 cot ^{2} A-1}`

`={cota}+cot (60+a)-cot (60-a)=3 cot 3 a`

`=>frac{3 cot ^{3} A-9 cot A}{3 cot^{2} A-1}`

`=>3(frac{cot ^{3} A-3 cot A}{3 cot ^{2} A-1})`
