So ,
` lambda=lim _{x rightarrow-1} frac{x^{2}-2 x-3}{x+1}`

`=lim _{x rightarrow-1} frac{(x-3)(x+1)}{x+1}`

`=lim _{x rightarrow-1}(x-3)=-4`
