A waxy crystalline solid `(A)` with a garlic odour is obtained by burning white `P` in a stream of air and nitrogen. `(A)` reacts vigorously with hot water forming a gas `(B)` and an acid `(C )`.Gas `(B)`has unplesant odour of rotten fish and is neutral towards litmus. When passed through `AgNO_(3)` solution, gas `(B)` produces a black precipitate `(D)`.What are `(A)` to `(D)` ? Give chemical equations of the reactions.

The correct Answer is:
(A)`P_(4)O_(6)`; (B)`PH_(3)`; ( C)`H_(3)PO_(4)` ; (D)`Ag`

The given changes are :
`P_(4)+3O_(2)(s)("air")tounderset((A))(P_(4)O_(6))("Garlic odour")` , `P_(4)O_(6)+6H_(2)O ("hot") to underset(( C))(3H_(3)PO_(4)) +underset(( B))(PH_(3))`
`(B)` is `PH_(3)` having rotten fish smell and neutral towards litmus
`6Ag^(+) + PH_(3) + 3H_(2)O to H_(3)PO_(3) + underset((D))(6Ag) darr+6H^(+)`

Magnesium on heating in air gives (A) and (B) . On reaciton with water (B) gives a colourless gas (C ).(C ) when passed through CuSO_(4) solution, gives a blue coloured solution (D) . Identify (A),(B),(C ) and (D) .

A black mineral (A) on heating in presence of air gives a gas (B). The mineral (A) on reaction with dilute H_(2)SO_(4) gives a gas (C) and a solution of a compound (D) on passing the gas (C) into an aqueous solution of (B), a white turbidity is obtained. The aqueous solution of (D) on reaction with potassium ferricyanide gives a blue compound (E). Identify (A) to (E) and give chemical equations for the reaction involved.

A compound (A) when treated with Kl gives a Scarlet red ppt. (B) which dissolves in excess of Kl. This solution is made alkaline with NaOH and gave brown precipitate (C) when NH_(3) gas is passed through it. When (A) is added with small amount of SnCl_(2) it gives a white ppt (D) but gives grey precipitate with excess amount of SnCl_(2) . When H_(2)S gas is passed through an acidic solution of (A) a black precipitate (E) is obtained. Identify (A) to (E). Write the reactions involved.
