Which one among the following element...

Which one among the following elements has the lowest first ionisation enthalpy and which of the has highest first ionisation enthalpy ? Li, K , Ca , S and Kr.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
Lowest : K, Highest : Kr

Among the elements Li, K Ca ,S and Kr the elements K, Ca and Kr belong to 4th period . Since in a period alkali metal has the lowest and inert gas has the highest `Delta_(i) H_(1)` therefore K has the lowest `IE_(1)` and Kr has the highest `Delta_(i) H_(1)`
