When the same amount of zinc is treated ...

When the same amount of zinc is treated separately with excess of sulphric acid and excess of sodium hydroxide, the ratio of volume of hydrogen evolved is

A

`1:1`

B

`1:2`

C

`2:1`

D

`9:4`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

The balanced chemical reaction of zinc with sulphuric acid and `NaOH` are
`Zn + H_(2)SO_(4) rarr ZnSO_(4) + H_(2)(g) uarr`
`Zn +2NaOH + 2H_(2)O rarr Na_(2)[Zn(OH)_(4))]+H_(2)(g) uarr`
Since, one mole of `H_(2) (g)` is produced per mole of zinc with both sulphuric acid and `NaOH` respectively, hydrogen gas is produced in the molar ratio of `1:1` in the above reactions.
