A syringe is filled with water up to volume `20cm^(3)`. The area of cross-section of the cylinder is`5cm^(2)`. The syringe is held vertically and its `90gm` piston is pushed upward by external agent with constant speed. A water beam coming out of the small nozzle (hole area `1mm^(2)`). Neglecting friction and viscous nature of water, find the work done by the agent [in `10^(-2)`] in fully emptying the syringe. (take `g=10 m//s^(2)`)

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
8

Height of water column `=20/5=4cm`
Mass of water `=20gm`
By work energy theorem
`W_("ext")=/_\U_("piston")+/_\U_("water")+KE_("water")=8xx10^(-2)`Joule

A syringe is filled with water. Its volume is V_(0)=40cm^(2) and cross section of its interior is A =8cm^(2) . The syrings is held vertically such that its nozzle is at the top, and its piston is pushed up with constant speed. Mass of the piston is M=50 g and the water is ejected at a speed of u_(0)=2m//s . cross section of the stream of water at the nozzle is a=2mm^(2) . Neglect friction and take the density of water to be rho=10^(3)kg//m^(3) (a) Find the speed of the piston (b) Find the total work done by the external agent in emptying the syringe.
