50 ml of a gaseous mixture of hydrogen and hydrogen chloride was exposed to sodium amalgam. The volume decreased to 40 ml. if 10 ml of the same mixture is mixed with 5 ml of gaseous ammonia and then exposed to water, what will be the final volume (in ml) of gas left ? all the volumes are measured at the same temperature and pressure.

The correct Answer is:
7

`{:(HCl_((g)),+,Na_((g)),to,1/2H_(2(g)),+,NaCl,,DeltaV=x/2=10),(x,,,,x/2,,,,x=20),(HCl_((g)),,,,H_(2(g)),,,,),(20 ml,,,,30 ml,,,,):}`
`{:(H_(2),+,HCl,+,NH_(3),to,NH_(4)Cl(aq)),(6 ml ,,4 ml ,,5 ml ,,),(,,x,,1 ml ,,):}`
After absorption of `NH_(3)` by water only 6 ml `H_(2)` gas will be left.
